Chikmagalur, often referred to as “Coffee Land of Karnataka,” is an enchanting hill station located at the foot of western ghats. It is a beautiful town with numerous coffee plantations paving way for a serene environment that offers people are perfect getaway.The city has got incredible physical features ranging from lush green landscapes, dew covered hills and stunning waterfalls making it a heaven for both nature lovers and adventure seekers. Historical Significance

Chikmagalur has a rich historical heritage dating back to the Hoysala dynasty. The town’s name, which means “Young Daughter’s Town,” is said to have evolved from a local legend that gifted this place to the youngest daughter of Rukmangada, who was the legendary ruler of Sakharayapatna.

Distance from Bangalore and Reaching Time

Chikmagalur is approximately 242 kilometers from Bangalore. The journey by road takes around 5 to 6 hours, visitors can also travel by train. The closest train station is Kadur, located around 35 kiilometers from Chikmagalur. 

Best Season and Time to Visit

The best time to visit Chikmagalur is during the months of September to March when the weather is cool and pleasant. This period offers an ideal climate for outdoor activities whereas monsoon is favourable for visiting the water falls. 

Local Attractions

  • Mullayanagiri: This is the highest point in Karnataka standing at 1,930 meters above sea level. This peak offers amazing and panoramic views of Western Ghats which attracts many trekkers throughout the year. The path leading to the top is relatively easy, making it suitable for beginners too. It is filled with lush green forests, misty covered trails and vibrant flora and fauna. On top of the hill there is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva which gives a spiritual touch to it.
  • Baba Budangiri: This is a sacred place and a historical landmark, housing the shrine of the Sufi saint Baba Budan. Pilgrims from everyone come together in this place especially during the annual Urs festival. The region is also well known for its scenic beauty with beautiful hills, dense forests, and seasonal wildflower blooms. As visitors trek these hills, they also get the opportunity to visit the Manikyadhara Falls which literally translate to “stream of pearls” 
  • Hebbe Falls: Cascading down majestically from 551 feet high, the Hebbe Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Chikmagalur. Nestled in a thick coffee plantation, there are 2 parts of this fall, the Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls). The whole trekking experience though this area  is captivating and thrilling. The waters of this fall are crystal clean, these dazzling waterfalls acting as the epitome of natural beauty. 
  • Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary: As one of the world’s most famous biodiversity hotspots, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is endowed with rich flora and fauna, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. The sanctuary harbours various animal species like tigers, leopards , elephants and over 250 bird species . It has amazing scenery including virgin forests, rivers and green valleys. Furthermore it also undertakes programs that secure endangered tigers among other animals that are at the verge of being extinct.
  • Kudremukh National Park: Another famous National Park, this is a UNESCO World Heritage site offering an ideal getaway near Bangalore for wildlife lovers. With abundant greenery, vast landscapes of lush vegetation and diverse flora, this place attracts several enthusiasts of nature. There Are several species at this national park that are found nowhere else in the world such as the lion-tailed monkeys and giant squirrels.
