Historical Significance

Vasco da Gama landed in Kozhikode in 1498, a significant event that marked the beginning of colonial influence. Since then, Kozhikode has been a prominent historical landmark, deeply rooted in spice trade.

Kozhikode is approximately 359 kilometers from Bangalore. By road, it takes around 8-10 hours to reach and by train it would take around 12 hours.

1. Kozhikode Beach: This is a picture-perfect sandy beach that serves as an ideal spot for leisure. It is famous for its gorgeous sunsets and provides a peaceful escape from the daily hassle of life. The fine sandy beach is home to the famous Kozhikode Lighthouse and two piers that stretch out into the sea. Visitors can take evening walks, enjoy street food, especially fresh banana chips, and spot dolphins during the appropriate season. 
2. Mananchira Square: This is a lush green recreation area situated in the city of Kozhikode, centered around the Mananchira Tank and is skillfully designed. It is frequented by locals as well as visitors, providing a restful retreat in the busy city. The square is surrounded by many historical landmarks, such as the Town Hall and Commonwealth Factory, making it rich in history. 
3. Beypore Beach: Beypore Beach has gained popularity due to its long-standing history of shipbuilding. The beach’s boathouse has been constructing wooden Uru boats for more than 1,500 years. Handcrafted ships that were once used for commercial purposes continue to emerge from this dockyard, preserving the centuries-old tradition of the local residents. Tourists can observe craftsmen at work or relax in the quieter atmosphere of the beach.
4. Kozhikode Fort: A glaring highlight is this region is the Kozhikode Fort, which is otherwise called the Tipu’s Constructed by the Colonists and Tipu Sultan, the supreme fort within the compound wall is of great historical value and largely displays the capabilities of the city’s sea commercialism as well as the ability to mount an offensive defence against adversaries. However, the rest of the fort complex is in ruins in the present day. The place gives an insight into what the period must have been like, with parts of walls and part of towers remaining in place.
5. Tali Temple:The Tali Temple is famous for its historical architecture and devotion. Believed to have been built in the 14th century, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was one of the key educational and cultural centers at its height. The architecture of this particular temple is a synthesis of timber and laterite which surrounds itself with intricate carvings, paintings, and a complex entrance. Apart from its calmness, it has an aura of historical and devotional aspects that boasts the place and appeals to the civilization in abundance.
