Distance from Bangalore and Reaching Time

Gokarna is approximately 487 kilometers away from Bangalore. There are numerous ways to travel to this destination, taking around 10 to 11 hours by car. There are trains available too and flights to Goa from where visitors will have to travel again by car to Gokarna. 

Best Season and Time to Visit

The summer months and pleasant months are both suitable to visit Gokarna. The peak summer months, May to June should be avoided due to the extreme heat.

  1. Mahabaleshwar Temple: Mahabaleshwar Temple, a famous shrine dedicated toLord Shiva, is a lasting example of ancient Dravidian architecture and spiritualism. This temple is believed to house the original representation of Shiva’s linga and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year. The serene atmosphere of this place blended with intricate carvings and its historical value, makes it popular among devotees and history lovers.
  2. Om Beach: Om Beach is one of Gokarna’s most visited beaches due to its unique shape that resembles the sacred Om symbol.   3. Kudle Beach: The northern and southern end of this ‘C’ shaped beach are connected to the main beach of Gokrna and Om Beach respectively. This beach may be better suited for watersports, offering boating, scuba diving and surfing opportunities. Compared to the other beaches, this is relatively less crowded and therefore more suitable to enjoy sunsets peacefully by yourself or loved ones.
  4. Mirjan Fort: The Mirjan Fort located about a few kilometers from Gokarna is a significant historical monument, enlightening visitors about the past. This fort was built in the 16th century and has stood in the face of many battles between the South Kingdoms and the Imperial British Empire. The architecture of this fortress is marked by its high walls, bastions and moats that were built around it. 
  5. Half Moon Beach: Half Moon Beach, named because of its crescent moon shape is nothing less than a paradise. Visitors can reach the beach by either taking a boat ride or a short trek through the forests. The journey itself is filled with breathtaking views and sights through picturesque landscapes.
