A charming coastal town in Karnataka, Udupi is celebrated for its deeply rooted cultural heritage and spiritual significance. It is the birthplace of the famous Dvaita philosophy started by Madhvacharya, a philosopher from the thirteenth century. Udupi holds a prominent place in Indian history due to its association with the renowned philosopher and theologian, Madhvacharya, who founded the Dvaita school of Vedanta here in the 13th century. The town is also known for the Ashta Mathas, eight monasteries established by Madhvacharya, which have played a significant role in the spiritual and cultural development of the region. 

Distance from Bangalore and Reaching Time

Udupi is approximately 401 kilometers away from Bangalore and the journey by road takes around 8-9 hours. Visitors can take a train to the nearest station or a flight to Mangalore and travel to Udupi.  

Best Season and Time to Visit

The best season and time to visit Udupi is between October to March when the climate is cool and pleasant. Many festivals such as Diwali, Christmas and Shiv Ratri take place in this time span which makes the city more festive and joyful.

• Sri Krishna Temple: The Sri Krishna Temple, is famous for its distinctive idol of Lord Krishna seen through a small window called Kanakana kindi. This temple was established in the 13th century by the philosopher Madhvacharya and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. The temple’s rituals, ceremonies and daily offerings showcase a deep sense of devotion, making it a must visit for visitors seeking a sporita refuge.
• Malpe Beach: Malpe Beach’s calmness and tranquil environment make it an ideal place for relaxation as well family outings. It also has facilities for some water sports such as parasailing and jet skiing making it lively hub for visitors. In addition, Malpe fishing harbour is just a few steps away, giving visitors the chance to fetch fish and try the seafood delicacies.
• St. Mary’s Island: St. Mary’s Island can be accessed by a boat ride from Malpe Beach and is famous for its basalt rocks caused due to volcanic activity millions of years ago. These distinctive features together with sandy pristine beaches makes this island an ideal escape. The island is uninhabited thus visitors find themselves secluded with nature in a peaceful environment.
• Kaup Beach:The Kaup Beach is a beautiful beach with a historical lighthouse constructed in 1901 that provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the landscape around it. The gentle ambience of this beach together with its natural beauty make it popular among residents and tourists.
• Manipal: Manipal, located near Udupi, is a town known for its academic institutions, particularly the prestigious Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Apart from academics, Manipal has tourist highlights such as End Point which gives sweeping views of the river and Arabian Sea. With cafes, bookshops and cultural events all around it, this university town is where modernity meets tradition.
