About Gudibande Fort

The Gudibande Fort is among the best historical forts which was built by Byre Gowda. Built during the 17th century, this was used as a military site and served as a strategic defence outpost during battles. One of the best features of the fort is the intricate water reservoir and conservation system that is connected by seven ponds. The fort has seven floors and it is marked by bastions, strong walls and hidden passages. It offers great views of the surrounding area and is an astonishing spot for historical buffs. 

Historical Significance

Gudibande Fort is deeply rooted in history and is over 400 years old. It was built during the reign of Byre Gowda, a local chief who was said to have been inspired by the Madakari Nayakas of Chitradurga. It is known for its vast water management system and its strategic location. 

Distance from Bangalore and Reaching Time

Gudibande Fort is located approximately 92 kilometers away from Bangalore and is easily accessible by road. The journey takes around  2 to 3 hours by car with other public transport options available too.

Best Season and Time to Visit

The best time to visit Gudibande Fort is from October to March when the weather is relatively cooler. Summer is great too but monsoon should be avoided as the trails can become slippery.

  1. Gauribidanur Temples – The temples of Gauribidanur are easily accessible and are believed to have existed since ancient times. However, the most important temple among them is the Gauribhadreshwara Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Krishna Raja Sagar Dam built by him is a frequently visited site by admirers. Alongside his awards, family home and other items, the museum in his primes paves the way for greater insights.
  3. Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple -The Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is a Chola era temple that is located at the foothills of the Nandi Hills. It is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, drawing a lot of crowd during Mahashivratri. It consists of three shrines that include Bhoga Nandeeshwara, Arunachaleshwara, and Uma Maheshwara, showcasing different stages of Lord Shiva.
